Corvette Racing

Can a 20 year old Corvette stay pace with newer modern cars?

HOOKED ON DRIVING

Are you looking for a racing car driver? A driver with a strong passion for driving. A driver who drives his own street car at many road racing tracks at high speed. A driver that has graduated from the Skip Barber Racing School and has competed in the Skip Barber Racing Series driving their Formula open-wheel racing cars.

Hi! My name is James Edward and I love driving my street legal 1989 Corvette at high speeds. My car is mostly stock except for the Flowmasters, 11" wide rims and of course the cool wing. 89's do not have any of that high tech car stability control stuff like newer cars have. I don't need none of that new fangled hi-tech computer controlled stuff!... might as well bolt on some training wheels to the side of your car.  It's just me and my "old school" low-tech stock 1989 Corvette with only 240 horses. Now you're probably thinking I'm the slowest car on the track...but you'd be wrong.

I drove to Laguna Seca race track the other day and parked my car next to a fully race preparred Ferrari Challenge car (still parked on its trailer). There where a few guys standing around admiring the red Ferrari with all the racing stickers etc. When I stepped out of my car they looked over at me and kind of frowned at me as to say "the nerve of me parking next to a Ferrari!" One guy ask me if I was here to watch the race. I replied "I'm here to win this race!" They all laughed at me...one commented - that was the funniest thing he had ever heard and they walked away.

I'm not one to bost or brag...much. I often out drive Ferraris, Ford GT, newer Vettes, Porsches, BMWs, Lotus, Mustangs, Mercedes, Lamebogirlies. Yes of course they can all smoke me in a 1/4 mile drag race. However, on the track its a completely different story it's more about skill than horsepower. I can out break many of them caughting up to them before the turn and passing them before the apex. Once I get by them...just try to keep up "chickens" ....take off those training wheels...oh I'm sorry you fraid to scratch your $350,000 Lamoginy...go put it in a museum and get off the track if you can't drive...LOL.

Well it took me a few laps but I managed to get by that red and oh by they way the blue Ferrari as well. Who's laughing now...where's that $20 bucks you now owe me? Hmm, maybe they were fraid to burn up there brakes? You know the rotors on a Ferrari run $20,000 - damn! that's more money than my car is worth.

The long straights are all they'll get...once I get passed its BYE! BYE! and many of them know it. This new Porche did everything he could to not let me pass, short of crashing into me. Finally he pulled off the track later said his wheel was loose, could be true or maybe he could not face reality...couldn't believe he paid soooo much money for his car and an "old piece of Sh*t" corvette just smoked his ash!

I drive at many NASA and HOD events. Hope to see you at the track! I'll be the one with the hood open to prove there are NO blower, NO turbos and NO bottle... just 240 stock horsepower (almost 20 year old horses).

Are you a natural born racing talent?

Great driving does not come natural to anyone. Some people are born with great depth perception, great balance, great hand eye and foot coordination, great muscle memory but they are not yet a great driver.

"Great driving comes from confidence. Confidence is gained through skill and experience. Skill is learned only through many hours of repetitive practice." - ME

It takes 10 years to master anything. People like Jeff Gordon and Danica Patrick practiced there skill for many years before becoming well know professional drivers.

Racing is easy right? Everyone drives.

"Anyone can drive Mach 1 in a straight line! - - The hard part in racing is overcoming the instinct (fear) to slam the breaks and get slowed the flock down before the turn and especially the cement wall of DEATH!." - me

What is your favorite track?

"The one I'm driving today!"

Why do you love racing?

"...when I'm driving my mind is at peace."
